Millennials in the workplace

This is a summary of a report about “Millennials in the workplace” born between early 1980 to 1990. Millennials play an essential role in the labour pool, but they lack dedication towards the companies and their leaders.

Two large-scale surveys were conducted to discover the problems of the millennial generation and increase their loyalty to organisations. One of the two surveys were conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and more than 40,000 millennials participated in it. The survey covered topics related to office life, human resource related issues and work-life balance. The second survey conducted by Deloitte, in which greater than 10,000 millennials contributed, focused on threats and opportunities expectations of millennials in the work environment.

The survey reported that millennials were similarly devoted to their work as their senior colleagues. They believed in work-life balance and didn’t think that immoderate life is good. Flexibility in working hours while compromising salary and promotion was valued. Acknowledgement within the company and the possibility to enhance skills was liked. They also believed that businesses should contribute to the enhancement of society.

The report recommended that organisations control workload, maintain work-life balance, and establish a lifestyle where employees have more control over their working hours, emphasising meaningful work. Lastly, Organization should provide support for improving professional skills and play a role in addressing societal problems rather than focusing only on profit-making.
